Black Muslims

American Islamic movement

Black Muslims are members of the Nation of Islam, an American religious movement founded in the 1930s that combines elements of Islam with Black nationalism.

The term was widely used in the mid-twentieth century but has fallen out of favor; members generally prefer Nation of Islam or simply Muslims.

The movement teaches Black self-reliance and has historically advocated racial separation.

Malcolm X was the most famous Black Muslim before his break with the Nation.
