Birkat Hamazon
Jewish mealtime thanksgiving
Birkat Hamazon is the Jewish blessing recited after meals, traditionally required after eating bread.
The Hebrew means "blessing of the food." It consists of four benedictions thanking God for sustenance, the land of Israel, Jerusalem, and divine goodness.
Observant Jews recite it or sing it at the table: We bentched after Shabbat dinner.
The Yiddish verb "bentch" derives from this practice.
