Avicenna

Medieval Islamic philosopher

Avicenna is the Latinized name of Ibn Sina (980–1037), a Persian polymath who became one of the most influential philosophers and physicians of the Islamic Golden Age.

His medical encyclopedia, the Canon of Medicine, served as a standard medical text in European universities for centuries.

His philosophical works synthesized Aristotelian thought with Islamic theology and profoundly influenced both medieval Islamic and Western scholastic philosophy.
