Attar

Medieval Persian poet

Attar is a fragrant essential oil extracted from flowers, especially roses.

The word comes from Persian and appears most often in the phrase attar of roses, a concentrated perfume oil used in fine fragrances and traditional medicine.

The extraction process requires enormous quantities of petals, making true attar expensive.
