Andrew Johnson
Lincoln's Tennessee successor
Andrew Johnson was the seventeenth president of the United States, serving from 1865 to 1869 after Lincoln's assassination.
A Tennessee Democrat who remained loyal to the Union, Johnson clashed bitterly with Radical Republicans over Reconstruction and became the first president impeached by the House, though the Senate acquitted him by one vote.
