zerg
Insectoid video game faction
Zerg originated as a faction of insectoid aliens in the video game StarCraft, known for overwhelming enemies with swarms of cheap, expendable units.
The term has spread beyond gaming to describe any strategy of defeating opponents through sheer numbers rather than skill or superior resources: We just zerged the boss with twenty players.
As a verb, to zerg is to swarm or rush en masse.
