wood stain
Deck color treatment
Wood stain is a liquid applied to wood to change its color while allowing the grain to show through.
Unlike paint, which covers the surface, stain penetrates the wood fibers: She chose a dark walnut stain for the oak cabinets.
Stains range from transparent to semi-opaque and may contain pigments, dyes, or both.
