witchhunter

Pursuer of hexers

A witchhunter is someone who hunts witches—originally, an official or zealot who sought out and prosecuted people accused of witchcraft.

The term now applies figuratively to anyone who pursues supposed enemies with righteous fervor and flimsy evidence: The senator styled himself a witchhunter rooting out communists.

Also spelled witch-hunter or witch hunter.
