whooper
Large white swan
A whooper is someone or something that whoops—makes loud cries of excitement or enthusiasm.
The term most commonly refers to the whooping crane, a large North American bird known for its distinctive call.
In casual speech, whooper can mean something impressively large or a blatant lie: He told a real whooper about the fish he caught.
This last sense is usually spelled whopper.
