wedge shot
Short, arcing stroke
A wedge shot is a golf stroke made with a wedge—a high-lofted iron designed for short, high-arcing approaches to the green or escaping from sand bunkers.
The shot typically covers distances under 130 yards with significant backspin: She hit a perfect wedge shot that stopped three feet from the pin.
