wood shot
Long-distance golf stroke
A wood shot is a golf stroke played with a wood—a club with a large, rounded head originally made of wood (now typically metal).
Woods are designed for distance, used off the tee or for long fairway shots: She hit a beautiful wood shot that landed just short of the green.
The term persists even though modern "woods" are made of titanium or composite materials.
