punch shot
Wind-beating golf stroke
A punch shot is a golf shot played with a shortened backswing and follow-through, keeping the ball on a low trajectory.
Golfers use it to control the ball in windy conditions or to escape from under tree branches: I had to hit a punch shot to get out from under that oak.
The technique prioritizes accuracy over distance.
