watertight doors
Sealed compartment entries
Watertight doors are heavy doors on ships designed to seal completely against water, preventing flooding from spreading between compartments.
They're typically found in bulkheads below the waterline and can be closed quickly in emergencies.
The term extends to any door engineered to form a water-impermeable seal: The submarine's watertight doors were tested before diving.
