viscometer

Fluid resistance gauge

A viscometer is an instrument that measures viscosity—the thickness or resistance to flow of a liquid.

Different designs suit different applications: capillary viscometers time how long fluid takes to pass through a narrow tube, while rotational viscometers measure the force needed to spin a probe through the sample.

The lab technician used a viscometer to check the oil's consistency.
