vertical climb
Scaling sheer face
A vertical climb is an ascent straight up, perpendicular to the ground.
In aviation, it describes an aircraft rising nose-up at or near 90 degrees—a maneuver requiring exceptional thrust.
Mountaineers use the term for rock faces too steep for anything but technical climbing: The route ends with a hundred-foot vertical climb to the summit.
