unyoke
Free draft animals
To unyoke is to release from a yoke, the wooden frame that joins draft animals like oxen for work.
The term extends figuratively to mean freeing from any burden, bond, or constraint: She felt unyoked from her family's expectations after moving abroad.
In older or literary usage, unyoke can simply mean to stop working for the day, as when farmers unyoked their animals at dusk.
