unleaded gasoline
Pump's green option
Unleaded gasoline is motor fuel without lead additives.
Lead compounds were once added to gasoline to prevent engine knock, but concerns about lead poisoning—particularly in children—led to their phase-out beginning in the 1970s.
Today virtually all gasoline sold for passenger vehicles is unleaded: Does this car take unleaded or diesel?
Often shortened to just unleaded.
