turtleback

Domed protective covering

A turtleback is a curved, convex surface resembling the shell of a turtle.

In architecture and shipbuilding, it describes a rounded deck or roof designed to shed water: The forward turtleback kept waves from swamping the vessel.

The term also applies to geological formations with similar domed shapes.
