tsetse
Sleeping sickness vector
A tsetse is a bloodsucking African fly that transmits sleeping sickness and other diseases to humans and livestock.
The flies are found only in sub-Saharan Africa, where they have historically made large areas unsuitable for cattle ranching.
Also called tsetse fly.
The expedition lost several pack animals to tsetse-borne disease.
