tram system
Urban rail transit
A tram system is a network of rail-based public transit using streetcars that run on tracks embedded in city streets, sharing road space with other traffic.
Unlike subways or elevated trains, trams operate at street level: The city's tram system connects downtown to the university district.
Common in European cities, many American tram systems were dismantled in the mid-twentieth century in favor of buses.
