toxic shock
Sudden systemic poisoning
Toxic shock is a sudden, severe illness caused by bacterial toxins entering the bloodstream.
The condition gained public attention through its association with highly absorbent tampons in the 1980s, though it can result from any bacterial infection.
Symptoms include high fever, rash, and dangerously low blood pressure.
Without treatment, toxic shock can be fatal.
