touch down
Meet the ground
To touch down is to land, said of aircraft and spacecraft: The plane touched down at 3:15.
In American football, a touchdown is the act of carrying or catching the ball in the opponent's end zone, scoring six points.
The noun touchdown applies to both senses: a smooth touchdown on the runway, a last-second touchdown.
