deplaning

Leaving the jet

Deplaning is the act of exiting an aircraft after landing.

The word appears mainly in airline announcements and travel contexts: Please remain seated until the captain has turned off the seatbelt sign and we begin deplaning.

The verb deplane follows the same pattern as debus or detrain—formal transportation jargon that sounds slightly bureaucratic in everyday speech.
