topographers
Land surface surveyors
Topographers are specialists who survey and map the physical features of land—its elevations, contours, rivers, roads, and other surface characteristics.
The work combines fieldwork with technical drafting, producing the detailed maps used in construction, military planning, and land management.
Army topographers mapped the terrain before the invasion.
