tiger cage

Big cat pen

A tiger cage is a small, cramped prison cell used for confining and torturing prisoners—most associated with South Vietnamese detention centers during the Vietnam War, where political prisoners were held in concrete pits with iron grating overhead.

The term now refers to any inhumane confinement designed to break a prisoner's will: Human rights investigators documented tiger cages at the facility.
