tidal island

Sometimes-connected landmass

A tidal island is a piece of land connected to the mainland by a causeway or path that becomes submerged at high tide, cutting off access.

At low tide, you can walk across; at high tide, it becomes a true island.

Mont Saint-Michel in France and Lindisfarne in England are famous examples.

We timed our visit to cross before the tidal island was cut off.
