tics
Nervous muscle movements
Tics are sudden, repetitive movements or sounds that a person makes involuntarily—eye blinking, throat clearing, facial twitching, grunting.
They're associated with conditions like Tourette syndrome but can occur in anyone, especially under stress.
Figuratively, tics are habitual quirks or mannerisms: His verbal tics include starting every sentence with "so".
