shrugging

Noncommittal body language

Shrugging is the present participle of shrug—raising and dropping the shoulders to express uncertainty, indifference, or resignation.

The gesture often accompanies "I don't know" or stands in for it entirely: She asked where he'd been; he just kept shrugging.

Shrugging something off is dismissing it as unimportant: He shrugged off the criticism and moved on.
