Bulletin board piercer
A thumbtack is a short pin with a broad flat head, designed to be pushed into a surface by thumb pressure alone.
It's used to fasten paper, posters, or other lightweight materials to walls, bulletin boards, or corkboard.
The verb thumbtack means to attach something with such a pin: She thumbtacked the notice to the board.
In British English, the equivalent is drawing pin.
