theater marquees
Playhouse entrance signs
Theater marquees are the large signs projecting over theater entrances, typically displaying the name of the current show or film along with featured performers.
The term evokes the classic lighted canopy with removable letters that became iconic of Broadway and old Hollywood movie palaces: Her name finally appeared on the marquee.
A marquee attraction or marquee name draws audiences on reputation alone.
