underground clubs
Secret nightlife spots
Underground clubs are venues operating outside mainstream commercial circuits, often in unmarked or secretive locations.
The term applies especially to nightclubs featuring electronic music, where the underground label signals artistic credibility and distance from pop commercialism: The best DJs got their start playing underground clubs in Berlin.
Some operate illegally or in legal gray areas—unlicensed spaces, warehouses, or basements.
The underground designation also suggests insider knowledge; you have to know someone to find them.
