street lamps
Sidewalk night lights
Street lamps are lights mounted on poles along roads and walkways to illuminate public spaces at night.
The term is slightly old-fashioned; streetlights is now more common.
The street lamps flickered on at dusk.
Gas-powered street lamps, once tended by lamplighters, gave way to electric ones in the early twentieth century.
