tegu
Large Argentine lizard
A tegu is a large lizard native to South America, belonging to the family Teiidae.
Tegus can grow over four feet long and are known for their intelligence, relative docility, and striking black-and-white banded patterns, though coloring varies by species.
They have become popular in the exotic pet trade but are considered invasive in parts of the southern United States, particularly Florida, where escaped or released tegus threaten native wildlife.
