talking clock

Speaks the hour

A talking clock is a device or telephone service that announces the current time audibly.

Before digital displays became ubiquitous, people could dial a number to hear a recorded voice give the precise time: She called the talking clock to set her watch.

The term also applies to clocks designed for the visually impaired that speak the time when a button is pressed.
