talking book

Literature you hear

A talking book is an audio recording of a book being read aloud, designed originally for blind or visually impaired readers but now widely popular as audiobooks.

The term dates from early recording technology: The library has an extensive talking book collection.

Now largely replaced by "audiobook" in general usage.
