coadjutor
Bishop's ordained helper
A coadjutor is an assistant, particularly one appointed to help a bishop or other high-ranking church official.
In Catholic usage, a coadjutor bishop has the right to succeed the current bishop upon death or retirement.
The term appears occasionally in secular contexts for any official assistant: The professor served as coadjutor to the department chair.
