Mach 5
Five times soundspeed
Mach 5 is five times the speed of sound—approximately 3,800 miles per hour at sea level, though the exact speed varies with temperature and altitude.
Aircraft traveling at Mach 5 or above are classified as hypersonic.
The term appears in aerospace contexts and popular culture, notably as the name of the car in the anime series *Speed Racer*.
