subrenting

Leasing your lease

Subrenting is renting out property you yourself rent—becoming a landlord to someone else while remaining a tenant to your own landlord.

The practice is often restricted or prohibited by lease agreements: The building doesn't allow subrenting.

Also called subletting or subleasing.
