subtenant
Renter's own renter
A subtenant is someone who rents property from a tenant rather than directly from the owner or landlord.
The arrangement requires the original tenant to sublet all or part of their rented space: The subtenant paid rent to me, and I paid the landlord.
Subtenants typically have fewer legal protections than primary tenants.
