subeditors

Junior editing staff

Subeditors are editors who work under a senior editor, typically reviewing and refining copy before publication.

In British journalism, subeditors handle headline writing, fact-checking, and cutting articles to length—work often called copyediting in American usage.

The subeditors caught several errors before the paper went to press.
