strophes
Sections of odes
Strophes is the plural of strophe, a division of a poem or song—essentially a stanza or verse.
In ancient Greek poetry and drama, a strophe was the first section of a choral ode, sung as the chorus moved in one direction, followed by the antistrophe as they reversed.
The term now applies more loosely to any distinct section of verse.
