strike-breaking

Undermining union action

Strike-breaking is the practice of undermining a labor strike, typically by hiring replacement workers or using other tactics to keep operations running despite a walkout.

A strike-breaker—also called a scab—crosses picket lines to work during a strike: The company brought in strike-breaking crews to maintain production.

The term carries strong negative connotations in labor contexts.
