stormproofing

Making storm resistant

Stormproofing is the process of preparing a structure or object to withstand severe weather—reinforcing windows, securing loose items, sealing gaps against wind and water.

The term applies to both permanent modifications and temporary measures before an approaching storm: We spent Saturday stormproofing the beach house.

By extension, stormproofing can mean preparing for any anticipated disruption.
