shelter-in-place
Don't go outside
Shelter-in-place is an emergency instruction to stay indoors and take cover where you are rather than evacuate.
Originally for chemical spills or active shooters, it became widely familiar during the COVID-19 pandemic as a term for lockdown orders: The governor issued a shelter-in-place order.
As a verb: We sheltered in place for three months.
