stock tickers
Trading floor shorthand
Stock tickers are the short letter codes that identify publicly traded companies on exchanges: AAPL for Apple, TSLA for Tesla, GOOGL for Alphabet.
The term originally referred to the telegraph machines that printed stock prices on paper tape—the ticker tape of ticker-tape parades.
Now tickers appear as scrolling displays on financial news channels or websites, showing prices and trading activity in real time.
