squarewave
Abrupt signal alternation
A squarewave is an electrical signal that alternates between two levels—high and low—with instantaneous transitions, producing a waveform that looks like the crenellations of a castle wall.
Common in digital electronics and audio synthesis, squarewaves have a distinctive buzzy or hollow sound when heard: The synthesizer's squarewave gave the track its retro 8-bit character.
