TTL

Digital logic family

TTL stands for time to live, a value that limits how long data persists or travels.

In networking, TTL counts how many router hops a packet can make before being discarded, preventing lost packets from circling forever.

In caching and databases, TTL specifies when stored data expires: Set a TTL of 24 hours on the DNS record.

The term also appears in electronics, where transistor-transistor logic (TTL) describes a type of digital circuit design.
