spotlight effect
Overestimated personal visibility
The spotlight effect is the tendency to overestimate how much others notice our appearance, behavior, or mistakes.
We feel as though a spotlight shines on us, making our flaws and blunders conspicuous, when in reality most people are too absorbed in their own concerns to pay much attention: I obsessed over my bad haircut, but it was just the spotlight effect—nobody cared.
