spinning disc
Whirling flat circle
A spinning disc is any flat circular object rotating around its central axis.
The term appears in physics discussions of angular momentum, descriptions of vinyl records and CDs, and various mechanical contexts.
In computing and interface design, a spinning disc (or spinning wheel) is the animated loading indicator that appears when a system is processing: My screen's been showing the spinning disc for five minutes.
