spike strip

Road pursuit ender

A spike strip is a device used by police to stop fleeing vehicles, consisting of a strip of sharp metal spikes laid across a road.

When a vehicle drives over it, the spikes puncture the tires, causing gradual deflation: Officers deployed a spike strip to end the high-speed chase.

Also called a tire deflation device or stop sticks.
